General Practitioner (GP) – Multiple Locations | Newcastle, Canberra & Merimbula Join Our Experienced Medical TeamSmith Street Medical Centre is a trusted and long-established general practice, proudly serving the community since 1955. We are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across a broad range of services, including family medicine, women’s and men’s health, mental health support, chronic disease management, and skin cancer checks.We are currently seeking a qualified and compassionate General Practitioner (GP) to join our team across our practice locations in Newcastle, Canberra, and Merimbula. By advertising across multiple locations, we aim to attract a wider pool of candidates, including those interested in metropolitan, regional, and coastal lifestyle opportunities.The OpportunityThis is an excellent opportunity for a motivated GP who is passionate about delivering high-quality care in a supportive and well-established clinical environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing provision of comprehensive healthcare services to a diverse patient base.Key ResponsibilitiesAs a General Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting detailed patient consultations, examinations, and assessments to diagnose illnesses and disorders
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient medical records
  • Ordering and interpreting pathology, imaging, and other diagnostic tests
  • Prescribing and managing treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care
  • Providing preventative healthcare advice, including guidance on diet, exercise, and lifestyle
  • Referring patients to specialists and liaising with other healthcare professionals as required
  • Managing chronic disease care, mental health treatment plans, and general health checks
  • Reporting births, deaths, and notifiable diseases in accordance with legal and professional obligations
  • Arranging hospital admissions where necessary
  • Diagnosing, treating, and preventing a wide range of physical and mental health conditions in line with current clinical standards

Skills and Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM, or actively working towards Fellowship
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in general practice
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to patient-focused care
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
