Position Summary The English Teacher inspires a passion for reading, writing, and communication while integrating Biblical values and worldview into the study of language and literature. This position nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and analytical skills by helping students interpret texts thoughtfully and express themselves effectively across multiple forms of writing. The teacher plays a key role in shaping articulate, discerning, and Christ-centered communicators prepared for higher education and meaningful engagement with the world.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain a consistent on-campus presence from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
  • Participate in “Yeti Fridays” (first Friday of each month during the first semester) and assist with all scheduled programs and school activities.
  • Teach up to eight courses or levels, which may include Grammar, Literature, Composition, American Literature, British Literature, or Speech/Oral Communication, as assigned by the Principal.
  • Design and implement rigorous, faith-integrated lesson plans that align with academic standards and encourage a Biblical lens for literary interpretation.
  • Develop students’ writing proficiency across narrative, expository, persuasive, and analytical forms.
  • Incorporate diverse, high-quality literary texts that support both language mastery and moral reflection.
  • Develop and lead one extracurricular initiative related to English language arts (such as Writing Club, Debate Team, Drama, or Literary Magazine) over the academic year.
  • Participate in faculty morning devotionals and meetings, contributing to the professional and spiritual culture of the school.
  • Attend all mandatory school functions, including orientation, graduation, commencement ceremonies, parent events, and other gatherings designated by school leadership.
  • Conduct parent–teacher conferences each semester and maintain open, professional communication with families about student progress and academic expectations.
  • Use technology, reading strategies, and media tools to enhance instruction and literary engagement.
  • Encourage students to apply Biblical truth in written and verbal expression, reflecting integrity, creativity, and discernment.

  • Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in English, English Education, or related field required.
    • Demonstrated experience teaching English or Language Arts at the high school and/or college level.
    • Strong commitment to the school’s Christian mission, values, and statement of faith.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Knowledge of digital learning tools, grammar instruction, and classical or modern literature.
    • Ability to inspire student engagement and foster a supportive, Christ-centered classroom culture.


    Work Authorization and Sponsorship
    • Erie Preparatory Academy welcomes applications from qualified international candidates. The school is authorized and willing to support employment eligibility under F‑1 OPT (Optional Practical Training) or similar student work authorization programs. For long-term positions, employment visa sponsorship (such as H‑1B or other categories) may be considered for highly qualified candidates, subject to federal eligibility and institutional need. J-1 candidates will also be considered.
