Senior Pharmacy Technician

Key Responsibilities:

• Support Clinical Pharmacists in delivering clinical pharmacy services
• Carry out medicines optimisation and improvement work to ensure safe, effective, and cost‑efficient prescribing
• Assist with medication safety monitoring and contribute to systems that reduce medication‑related risk
• Resolve medicines‑related queries by liaising with clinicians, administrative staff, and community pharmacy colleagues
• Monitor prescribing trends and adherence to PCN, local, and national guidelines
• Support Structured Medication Reviews and follow‑up actions
• Use IP prescribing (where applicable) to support new clinical services
• Conduct medicines reconciliation for new patients, hospital discharges, and care home residents
• Review and manage repeat prescription requests, ensuring accuracy and clinical appropriateness
• Support long‑term condition management pathways under the direction of Clinical Pharmacists
• Counsel patients on safe and effective use of medicines within your professional scope
• Assist in the implementation of national initiatives such as the Discharge Medicines Service (DMS) and New Medicines Service (NMS) where appropriate
• Contribute to improving antimicrobial stewardship through monitoring, education, and data collection
• Participate in audits, service evaluations, and quality‑improvement projects
• Maintain accurate records and ensure full compliance with GPhC standards and relevant legislation
• Support vaccination, minor illness, and other extended pharmacy services where training and scope allow
• Provide supervision and support to junior staff, trainees, and new starters
• Work collaboratively across the PCN to enhance patient care, improve medicines safety, and streamline workflows
• Report directly to the Superintendent Pharmacist and support leadership tasks where appropriate
