The OpportunityWe have an exciting opportunity for an experienced in-house legal counsel to join us at our friendly innovation consultancy based in Cambridge, UK. You would be our only in-house lawyer and will report directly to Innovia’s Legal Director. You will work alongside other members of our small legal team and with senior stakeholders across the company. Key ResponsibilitiesAs our in-house legal counsel, you will be the primary source of expert legal advice and support for key senior stakeholders and the company at large, responsible for providing guidance on a wide range of legal matters, helping to protect Innovia’s interests, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations relevant to our international consultancy business.Your day-to-day responsibilities would include:
- Advising on commercial, contract, company and employment law, intellectual property and data protection
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including: client contracts, supplier/contractor agreements, engagement letters, NDAs, and licences
- Proactively identifying and mitigating the legal risks and potential liabilities associated with business decisions by:
- Keeping abreast of legal changes and providing practical advice on potential impacts and compliance activities
- Reviewing company policies
- Implementing effective risk management strategies
- Providing advice on compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and up to date industry standards
- Collaborating and managing relationships with external legal firms, counsel, or legal service providers from a wide range of sectors and industries
- Representing the company in any legal disputes such as litigation, arbitration and mediation if such were needed
- Providing in house training and education to employees which effectively communicates relevant legal risks and considerations and increases awareness of legal matters across the business
- Developing the capabilities of our small legal team and establishing appropriate legal strategies, procedures, and best practice
- Supporting corporate governance practices where needed
- Maintaining internal legal documentation and records The CandidateThe ideal candidate must be a qualified lawyer, preferably with a strong background in commercial law either in a private practice or in-house (level of PQE is flexible).Essential Skills and Experience:
- Dealing with commercial law, contract law, contract negotiations, and interacting directly with senior clients
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, reach practical solutions and build good quality professional relationships
- Ability to analyse the driving forces and considerations involved in a project, to quickly assess the associated risks, and give concise commercial advice
- Ability to institute effective systems and procedures, the desire to develop the capability of the legal team, and clearly convey complex legal concepts to all levels of the business
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
- Flexibility to work part-time hours and accommodate occasional business needsDesirable Skills and Experience:

- Employment law Important Practical ConsiderationsOffice attendance: For this role, we offer hybrid working on Mondays and Fridays, but a new joiner is expected to come to the office more frequently in the first few weeks to attend induction meetings and meet with relevant stakeholders.
