We are working with a highly innovative, solution-led technology business operating across advanced mobility and energy systems. While currently a small (<30 heads), agile organisation, it is entering a period of planned growth with ambitions to scale significantly over the next 3–5 years. The business delivers complex, integrated technical solutions across electrified platforms, with a strong focus on battery systems, propulsion and system-level performance.
The business is at the early stages of a significant repositioning and growth journey, opening up multiple new industry opportunities across mobility, marine, defence and energy storage. This creates a unique environment offering real diversity of technical challenge and the opportunity to shape both product direction and engineering capability.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role sitting just below board level, leading a small number of senior functional Heads, with responsibility for shaping and delivering technical strategy while remaining directly involved in high-value technical activity.
The role

• Act as the senior technical authority across battery systems, powertrain integration and overall system performance
• Lead and develop a small number of senior functional leaders across technical delivery and systems capability
• Take ownership of battery system design from cell selection through module and pack design, validation and optimisation
• Drive system-level thinking across battery packaging, thermal management, safety and performance
• Lead architecture decisions across electrified powertrains, ensuring optimal integration between battery, controls and mechanical systems
• Remain hands-on in complex, high-risk or technically challenging areas, providing direct input where required
• Support NPI and development programmes, ensuring robust validation strategies and efficient route to production
• Engage with customers and partners on technically complex projects, acting as the credible technical interface
• Play a key role in shaping the technical roadmap as the business expands into new sectors and applications

What we’re looking for

• Strong background in electrified systems, ideally across mobility, marine, defence or energy storage (BESS) environments
• Deep experience in battery systems, particularly: Cell selection and behaviour, Module and pack design, Thermal management and safety considerations, Testing, validation and performance optimisation
• Proven ability to operate at system level, understanding how battery technology integrates with wider powertrain and platform architecture
• Experience working across L6e / L7e or similar lightweight electrified platforms is highly desirable
• Comfortable leading senior engineers while remaining technically hands-on
• Strong problem-solving capability, particularly in complex or ambiguous technical environments
• Able to balance technical depth with commercial awareness and delivery focus
