The Cedars consists of two acute inpatient wards for adults of working age, offering 32 beds in a friendly, mixed‑gender environment. Additionally, to support successful candidates in their transition, we offer a recruitment and retention premium totalling £60,000 over three years. Whether you are a first‑time NHS consultant, an experienced psychiatrist or seeking a post‑retirement role, you will be warmly welcomed. Approved Clinician status is preferred, but full support is available for eligible candidates.Main duties of the jobAs a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will oversee care for up to 16 patients, supported by a dedicated medical secretary, medical staffing team, and a strong multidisciplinary workforce. Trust grade, Specialty and resident doctors, alongside senior nursing, psychology and occupational therapy colleagues, contribute to a collaborative and effective clinical environment. The successful applicant will offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients being managed informally and those detained under the Mental Health Act in the capacity of Responsible Clinician. They will also play a vital role in the leadership of the wider urgent and inpatient care pathway and participate in ensuring the care flow of patients through the Trust is efficient and patient‑centred. You will take part in the on‑call rota and other consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross‑cover for leave. You will join an enthusiastic peer group, with 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities each week for professional development, including research, quality improvement and service development, alongside regular peer meetings and postgraduate events.
