Job Summary The role supports the busy on‑call rota with increased consultant on‑site involvement. Advanced minimal‑access surgery and/or robotic surgery experience in colorectal surgery is essential. The post is based in the Lower GI surgical unit and works closely with 8 consultant colleagues and a specialist to cover general lower GI work. It requires sufficient general surgical experience to manage emergencies and a strong research interest in colorectal disease.Main

Duties
- Perform colorectal cancer resections, with over 90% minimally invasive access.
- Lead and participate in colorectal procedures, including robotic procedures.
- Attend multidisciplinary teams for inflammatory bowel disease and complex Crohn’s disease surgery.
- Provide on‑call service in general surgery for up to 7 days, covering emergency and complex cases.
- Develop specialist services in complex abdominal wall reconstruction and intestinal failure.
- Collaborate with radiology, nutrition and external partners for patient care.
- Contribute to audit and research, publishing case series and outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
- FRCS or equivalent.
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date within 6 months), CESR or European Community Rights.
- Evidence of an advanced colorectal fellowship.
- JAG accreditation for lower GI endoscopy.
- Training in general surgery and ability to manage common surgical emergencies.
- Desirable:
Higher degree or postgraduate thesis. - Experience in robotic colorectal surgery.
- Experience in intestinal failure management.
- Experience in other specialties.
