The operation:
George Fisher Mine (GFM) is a large-scale underground zinc-lead-silver operation based in Mt Isa, QLD. GFM has complex mining sequence, multiple operating fronts, and significant interactions among development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services, and production readiness.
George Fisher has a long mine life and is a key strategic asset for Glencore globally.
The role:
The Mining Engineer - Short Term Planning is responsible for providing practical mine designs and clear instructional documentation to support the safe and efficient execution of development, production, services and infrastructure activities. You will also be required to produce and issue development and drill and blast designs in line with the mine schedule to ensure operational readiness.
Your ability to translate mine plans developed by Long-Term and Medium-Term Planning Engineers into executable short-term designs and drill and blast instructions will be essential.
Experience required:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related subject
- Minimum 2 years underground hard rock mining experience, or 3+ years mining experience in underground or open cut coal or hard rock operations (open cut).
- Experience in short-term mine planning, drill and blast design, and operational mine design.
- Practical exposure to underground mining operations and production processes.
- Experience with mine design software such as Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine or Deswik (preferred).
