Job description

Consultant Geriatrician | Tertiary Referral Centre | Northern Territory
The Opportunity
We are working closely with a major tertiary referral hospital in the Northern Territory and are keen to connect with FRACP Geriatricians interested in a full-time role offering clinical breadth, complexity and meaningful system impact.
The service supports an ageing population across a vast regional and remote catchment. Geriatricians contribute across acute inpatient consults, subacute models of care and multidisciplinary discharge planning within a high-acuity tertiary environment.
This role will appeal to Geriatricians seeking complex medicine, strong team integration and the opportunity to influence care delivery across culturally diverse communities.

The Hospital
This is the principal tertiary referral hospital for the Northern Territory, delivering comprehensive secondary and tertiary services.
The Geriatric Medicine service includes:
  • Acute geriatric consult service within a tertiary setting
  • Subacute and rehabilitation interface
  • Orthogeriatrics collaboration
  • Strong Emergency Department and ICU integration
  • Multidisciplinary team-based care
  • Teaching and supervision involvement

The hospital supports registrar training and maintains established links with metropolitan tertiary centres.

Why Consider This Role
  • Tertiary referral centre
  • Complex and diverse case mix
  • Acute and subacute integration
  • Orthogeriatrics and frailty management
  • Unique remote and Indigenous health exposure
  • Substantially comparable pathway supported

For interstate or international applicants, the RACP assessment and registration pathway can be clearly structured to ensure transparency and progression alignment.

The Location
Based in Australia’s northern capital, the city offers short commute times, year-round warmth and immediate access to outdoor environments. Consultants benefit from metropolitan infrastructure combined with a distinctive tropical lifestyle.

Requirements
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) – Geriatric Medicine
  • Specialist Registration with AHPRA (or eligibility)
  • International Medical Graduates assessed by RACP as partially or substantially comparable
