Addiction Medicine with Island Health offers the opportunity to make a direct impact in people’s lives while working within supportive, interdisciplinary teams across a diverse range of care settings. Opportunities are available in Victoria, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, the Comox Valley and Campbell River, offering a range of urban and coastal rural practice settings. What are the responsibilities of physicians in Addiction Medicine?
You will work within collaborative, team-based environments alongside physicians, nurses, social workers and allied health professionals. There are also opportunities to contribute to program development, quality improvement and innovation within growing Mental Health and Substance Use programs. Island Health is affiliated with the University of British Columbia and offers opportunities for teaching and involvement in medical education through the Island Medical Program, including participation in residency training. What are the responsibilities of physicians in Addiction Medicine?
- Addiction Medicine physicians provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to individuals with substance use disorders across a range of clinical and community settings.
- Care includes assessment, treatment and ongoing management of conditions such as opioid and alcohol use disorders, including therapies like OAT, while supporting co-occurring mental health and medical needs.
- Physicians work in diverse settings including hospital consult services, Rapid Access Addiction Clinics, community outreach, Complex Care Housing and primary care.
- Roles may include on-call responsibilities, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and delivering trauma-informed, culturally safe care to diverse populations.
