Principal Software Engineer

About UsGoSplit is an innovative cost-sharing carpooling platform developed by FELIX WILL LIMITED. We operate as a dynamic route marketplace connecting drivers and passengers who are already travelling along similar routes. As our platform scales, we are building a secure, stable, and highly scalable technology ecosystem spanning mobile applications, real-time matching, payments, and trust & safety. The RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and architecture of GoSplit's software applications and systems. Working closely with our CEO, you will set the product direction, resolve our most complex engineering challenges, and ensure the platform meets the highest standards of scalability, stability, security, and New Zealand financial compliance. What you’ll do:

• Lead the design, development, testing, and ongoing support of GoSplit's mobile apps (iOS and Android using React Native or equivalent) and backend systems
• Review the existing architecture to identify bottlenecks
• Implement engineering solutions capable of supporting increased user numbers
• Test, debug, diagnose, and correct complex errors and technical faults
• Conduct technical validation of the mobile application's functions
• Integrate payment gateways
• Contribute significantly to long-term technology roadmap planning
• Participate in product planning and stakeholder meetings

What we’re looking for

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
• Proven senior-level software engineering experience
• Experience developing mobile applications within a start-up environment is highly preferred
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, system monitoring, and security protocols
• A strong passion for system optimization, upgrades, and modernization
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Advanced problem-solving capabilities
• A practical, delivery-focused mindset
