Position: Safe and Sustainable Travel Trainer (formerly Road Safety Trainer)
Job title: Road Safety Trainer Grade: B3 £ 26,403 - £28,142 Hours: 37 hours per week term time only Contract: Permanent Do you have experience working with children or young people and would enjoy an active role working across the city where no two days are the same? The Role The role aligns with Leeds Vision Zero 2040 strategy, aiming for zero road deaths and serious injuries. You will deliver pedestrian and scooter training, classroom lessons and assemblies, and support projects such as School Streets, public bike hire and community safety campaigns.Responsibilities

About

You will deliver pedestrian and scooter training, classroom lessons and assemblies, and support projects such as School Streets, public bike hire and community safety campaigns.Responsibilities
- Deliver pedestrian and scooter training to children in schools and community settings.
- Support the planning and delivery of road safety and travel programmes.
- Administer classroom lessons, assemblies and be available for additional school activities.
- Assist with safe and sustainable travel events across the city, including Breeze, Bike Register, speed monitoring and national campaigns.
- Provide road safety training to pupils in SEND settings.
- Maintain accurate records and admin systems.
- Collaborate with local communities, partners and council staff to promote Vision Zero.
- Help team members with problem‑solving and customer service enquiries.
- Support delivery of specific elements of the Service Plan and Team Plan, meeting targets and improving outcomes.
- Participate in training, development and appraisal activities.
- Contribute to service meetings, training days and events as required.

- Effective verbal and written communication with varied audiences.
- Ability to organise groups of children and other clients.
- Recognise and delegate issues that need reporting.
- Flexible approach to training and adapting activities to children’s abilities.
- Team‑working skills and enthusiasm to deliver pedestrian and scooter training.
- Willingness to work flexibly across different locations.
- Proficiency with IT (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Full clean Category B driving licence.
Knowledge
- Safe road user behaviour and promotion of active and sustainable travel.
Experience
- Work with and supervise groups of children of a variety of ages.
- Engage with members of the public.
- Work within a team environment.
Desirable Requirements
- Ability and enthusiasm to deliver safe cycling skills training.
- Teaching or training qualification.
- Understanding of techniques to promote safe road user behaviour and sustainable travel choices.
- Experience in a school environment and delivery of training for young people.
- Experience of on‑road cycling, scooting or pedestrian skills training.
