LOverview Join the exciting team of the Bradford African Festival of Arts (BAFA) as a Hairdresser & Barber, where your creativity, passion, and grooming expertise will help bring culture, style, and confidence to life. In this vibrant role, you will provide professional hairdressing and barbering services for performers, models, guests, staff, and members of the public during festival activities and related events. Whether you are creating stylish cuts, traditional African hairstyles, braiding, grooming artists for stage performances, or helping clients look their best, your talent will play an important role in the success of BAFA. This is a paid opportunity offering a lively, inclusive, and inspiring environment that celebrates diversity, creativity, and professional growth. Key Duties Provide a wide range of hairdressing services including cuts, styling, colouring, braiding, locs, extensions, and special event looks. Deliver professional barbering services including fades, line-ups, beard shaping, grooming, and classic cuts. Create cultural and contemporary hairstyles suitable for performances, fashion shows, photoshoots, and live events. Prepare artists, performers, presenters, and VIP guests for stage appearances. Maintain high hygiene, sanitation, and health & safety standards for all tools and workspaces. Manage appointments and schedules efficiently during busy festival periods. Offer excellent customer service by understanding client needs and delivering quality results. Recommend suitable haircare products and styling solutions where appropriate. Support backstage quick-change styling during performances where required. Mentor junior stylists or volunteers supporting the beauty and grooming section. Assist with setup and smooth operation of the BAFA beauty/grooming zone. Qualifications & Skills Previous experience as a Hairdresser, Barber, or Stylist. Relevant qualification or professional certification in hairdressing/barbering is desirable. Strong skills in Afro hair care, braiding, natural hair styling, and multicultural hair textures. Experience in fades, beard grooming, and men’s styling. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced event environment. Excellent communication and people skills. Professional, reliable, and punctual attitude. Creative flair and passion for beauty, fashion, and presentation. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desirable Skills Makeup skills. Wig installation or styling. Fashion/show styling experience. Experience working at festivals, concerts, weddings, or events. Ability to speak English and additional African languages is an advantage. What We Offer Paid employment opportunity.
