We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Priest to serve at our Hindu Temple. The successful candidate will play a vital role in conducting religious ceremonies, guiding community members, and fostering spiritual growth. - Perform daily prayers, rituals, and special ceremonies in accordance with Hindu traditions
- Lead religious services and educational programmes for community members of all ages
- Provide spiritual guidance and counselling to individuals seeking support or advice
- Organise community events, festivals, and outreach programmes to promote cultural awareness
- Mentor and support volunteers and younger members of the congregation
- Assist with fundraising activities to support temple initiatives and community projects
- Work collaboratively with other religious leaders and community organisations to strengthen communal bonds
- Offer hospice care support as needed, providing comfort and spiritual assistance to those in need
- Ensure Temple is opened on time.
- Ensuring that the shrines are ready for worshippers/ visitors to the Temple. Treat all visitors and devotees equally with politeness and humility.
- Lighting of the lamps both in the morning and evening.
- Performing aarti in the morning and evening.
- Full lunch bhog to be offered at 11:00am. This will only be cooked in the Kitchen allocated to the Priest.
- Curtains to the shrines should be drawn at the closing time of the Temple.
- Priest is also responsible for offering Prasad brought by devotees to Gods and then redistributing them to devotees.
- Priest is also responsible for performing puja or vidhis as requested by devotees in the Temple, and should never demand dakshina for these services.
- Deities clothes (“vagaa”) should be changed once a week
- Cleanliness should be maintained in the shrines at all times.
- Abhishek should be performed on Shiv- lingam every morning. Some deities i.e.Naag devta will require extra cleaninG..
- Priest will need to be well versed in chanting Vedic mantras and singing of “aarti” & “thaal” for “bhog”.
- Will deliver presentation and conduct Q & A sessions to schools or groups visiting the Temple.
- Will answer telephone queries from visitors/ devotees.
- Will also undertake responsibility of issuing receipts for any donations (either monetary or other gifts) received.
- Will also undertake responsibility of issuing relevant booking forms to devotees.
Requirements
- Proven experience in teaching Hindu religious practices and philosophies
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide others
- Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with diverse audiences
- Experience working with children, including educational or mentoring roles within a community setting
- Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to serve the community’s spiritual needs
- Ability to organise events, manage multiple responsibilities, and work collaboratively within a team
- Prior experience in hospice care or providing emotional support is desirable but not essential
- Skills in fundraising to help sustain temple activities and community outreach efforts
