About the job Part Time: 0.6FTE (22.2) hours per week Interview Date: 5 August 2026 The School of Psychology and Behavioural Science is seeking a new Lecturer in Counselling; this is a permanent lecturer post within the school, offered on a part-time basis. The post will require the successful applicant to undertake teaching, assessment and related activities, primarily supporting both our Undergraduate BSc Psychology (Counselling) and our MSc in Counselling Courses. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in interdisciplinary scholarly activities to enhance the impact and profile of the faculty’s outputs. We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. About you You will have an excellent educational background in Counselling, Psychology or a closely related discipline. A postgraduate qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy is essential to the post, and you will be expected to be registered or accredited as a counsellor, psychotherapist or counselling psychologist with a recognised professional body (such as the BACP). Expert knowledge of adult counselling is essential and previous experience of teaching in Further/Higher Education is a distinct advantage. You will have well developed written and verbal communication, time management and organisation skills and an effective approach to completing tasks. Good IT skills, including competence in using visual learning environments and remote teaching platforms is essential. - Degree qualification or equivalent in relevant subject
- Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification in counselling and/or psychotherapy, or a relevant related subject
- To be registered or accredited as a counsellor, psychotherapist or counselling psychologist with a recognised counselling/psychotherapy professional body (such as BACP)
- Professional Recognition as HEA Fellow (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale
