Living in Sebastian
Situated along the Indian River Lagoon and Sebastian River on Florida’s Atlantic Ocean, Sebastian is the largest city in Indian River County. But with a population of just over 25,000, Sebastian offers all the perks of Florida living with a small, hometown feel. The Sebastian Riverfront area has the character of a quaint riverfront fishing village featuring fishing charters and boat rentals, top-notch waterfront dining, popular beach bars and local breweries. Shopping ranges from unique boutiques to major retailers.
With its numerous waterways, Sebastian is known as a premier fishing, surfing and water sports destination on Florida’s Atlantic Coast and is just minutes from some of the state’s top family-friendly beaches. It is situated near many natural and scenic areas with over 20,000 acres of preserve and including Pelican Island, America’s first National Wildlife Refuge; St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park, part of the Great Florida Birding Trail; and Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, designated to protect green and loggerhead sea turtle nesting habitats. Sebastian is home to over 16 city parks that host local seafood, music and arts festivals, and other family-friendly activities.
Convenient access to major roadways enables easy travel to other popular Florida destinations, such as Kennedy Space Center, Port Canaveral cruise terminal, Central Florida theme parks, downtown Orlando and Miami for quick day trips or weekend getaways. The southern corridor of the 233-mile Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway — with abundant historical, natural and recreational resources for explorers of all ages — encompasses the entire Sebastian River area. And if your sense of adventure leads you further, Melbourne Orlando International Airport, offering flights to several Southeast and Midwest cities as well as the United Kingdom, is just about 25 miles north
