This is a full-time post for a Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry, primarily focused on General Adult patients. This is a post which has been filled by a substantive consultant who is leaving the organisation in July 2026 due to retirement. The team benefits from an experienced Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry who would be a supportive colleague of the holder of this post. The doctor is required to be on the specialist register for General Adult Psychiatry (other sub-specialties may be considered in exceptional circumstances).

This post is based at Princess Alexandra Hospital CM201QX . The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the assessment and management of adult patients 18 years to 70 years old admitted to Princess Alexandra Hospital. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act to Princess Alexandra Hospital. While the team has this post and an old age consultant, there is an expectation that the post holder will provide input to all ages of patient held by the service if required.

We have excellent links with the medical school at ARU and other educational establishments where we have shared appointments in teaching and research.

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.
