Firmware Engineer (Embedded Systems | Wearables) Full-Time | On-site | Austin, TX $145K – $175K + Equity
About the OpportunityThey are building a genuinely category-defining wearable-style consumer health device, a connected, battery-powered product designed to make continuous health tracking effortless and actionable.
Their long-term vision is ambitious: transforming how people monitor and understand their health, with the potential to enable early detection of serious conditions through passive, everyday use.Backed by experienced founders who have previously scaled high-growth technology companies, they’ve recently closed significant funding and are now entering a critical phase of product development and scale.
This is a rare opportunity to join extremely early and take full ownership of a core part of the product.
The RoleThey are looking for a Firmware Engineer to take ownership of the entire embedded firmware stack for a connected wearables / consumer hardware device.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role where they will be responsible for everything from early hardware bring-up through to production firmware, OTA updates, and fleet reliability. The position is fully on-site in Austin to enable rapid iteration, real-world debugging, and close collaboration with hardware and backend teams.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Own the firmware stack end-to-end - from hardware bring-up through to production deployment and OTA updates
- Drive aggressive power optimisation toward a ~60-day battery life target
- Debug and stabilise noisy, real-world sensors to ensure consistent device performance
- Build and maintain robust OTA systems where reliability is critical at scale
- Collaborate closely with hardware and backend teams to ensure seamless device-cloud interaction
- Take full responsibility for firmware quality, performance, and long-term maintainability
What They’re Looking For Must-Have Experience
- Strong embedded C development experience
- Proven track record shipping production firmware on connected, battery-powered devices
- Deep experience with power optimisation
- Experience building and maintaining OTA update systems in production environments
Highly Valued
- Wearables or consumer health device experience (e.g. fitness trackers, smart devices)
- Experience debugging and stabilising real-world sensor data
- Hardware bring-up experience (from early prototypes to production)
- Experience working with MCUs, RTOS, and BLE-based systems
Tech Environment
- Embedded C
- MCU-based systems
- RTOS
- BLE connectivity
- Real-time, resource-constrained environments
Why This Role Stands Out
- Full ownership of the firmware stack - not just a small piece of a large system
- Deep technical challenges across power optimisation, sensor reliability, and OTA at scale
- Greenfield opportunity to define how firmware is built and scaled
- Immediate impact - stepping into a role with clear ownership and responsibility
- Small, high-calibre team where contributions directly shape the product
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $145K – $175K (flexibility for exceptional candidates)
- Equity: 0.1% – 0.3%
- Strong funding and runway
- Visa sponsorship available (H1B transfers supported only)
Location & Working Style
- On-site, 5 days per week in Austin, TX
- Fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
- Ideal for engineers who enjoy hands-on debugging and rapid iteration
