Position: Internal Audit Manager (Specialist Services Unit)
Job Overview Audit and Assurance Services is a division of NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP). The Internal Audit Manager will support the development and delivery of audit plans and manage a portfolio of project and estates assurance audit assignments, delivering complex high‑level reviews of risks, strategies, governance structures, quality & safety arrangements, financial management and service provision across NHS Wales organisations. Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and delivery of audit plans.
- Manage a portfolio of project and estates assurance audit assignments.
- Deliver complex high‑level reviews of risks, strategies, governance structures, quality & safety arrangements, financial management and service provision.
- Provide audit management, including supervising junior staff and training.
- Produce complex audit reports with recommendations for enhancements.
- Preserve and develop audit processes in line with public sector audit standards.
- Maintain professional relationships with senior management to present findings.
Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
- Relevant professional qualification (CCAB qualified accountant or MIIA qualified auditor) with post‑qualification experience or equivalent.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Highly specialist knowledge of Public Sector Internal Audit Standards, Risk Management and Assurance Frameworks, Corporate Governance, Controls Assurance, Stewardship & Probity, Healthcare Standards.
- Extensive experience of internal audit and public sector audit, including audit management and staff supervision.
- Advanced specialised knowledge and experience of internal audit and risk management.
- Knowledge of contract forms (NEC, JCT, ICE, MIM) and NHS Infrastructure and Investment requirements.
- IT proficiency, including Microsoft products and audit software.
- Strong analytical, report writing, presentation, negotiation and team‑building skills.
Desirable Qualifications and Knowledge
- Knowledge of healthcare, NHS finance and capital project development.
- Experience of auditing healthcare standards and NHS legislation.
- Specialist knowledge of construction contract management and NHS estate infrastructure.
- Welsh language skills (levels 1‑5).
- Experience of presenting reports to Audit Committees and managing complex projects.
