Job description
A rare opportunity has opened for a CPU ASIC Design Engineer to join one of the world’s most influential semiconductor companies at its flagship UK design centre in Cambridge.
You’ll become part of an elite engineering organisation developing the technology behind next-generation CPUs, GPUs, ultra-low-power IoT devices, and advanced wearable platforms used by millions around the globe.
This role places you at the centre of CPU innovation — working alongside leading architects and design teams to shape high-performance, low-power processor technology from early concept through to silicon delivery.
As a CPU ASIC Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in CPU RTL development, contributing to architectural exploration, microarchitecture definition, and complex implementation challenges where power, performance, and efficiency are critical.

As a CPU ASIC Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in CPU RTL development, contributing to architectural exploration, microarchitecture definition, and complex implementation challenges where power, performance, and efficiency are critical.
What you’ll be doing
- Collaborate with CPU modelling teams to explore and evaluate high-performance design strategies
- Drive microarchitecture development and specification from early architectural concepts through to detailed implementation
- Own RTL design and refinement, balancing power, performance, timing, and area constraints
- Support performance verification activities to ensure architectural goals are achieved in silicon
- Work closely with physical design and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver robust, production-ready designs
- Contribute to decisions that directly influence next-generation processor performance and efficiency
What they’re looking for
- Strong understanding of microprocessor architecture and CPU design principles
- Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL
- Solid grounding in logic design, timing closure, and power optimisation
- Knowledge of low-power microarchitecture techniques
- Understanding of high-performance CPU design trade-offs and architectural strategies
- Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python
What’s on offer
- Competitive base salary
- RSUs and annual bonus
- Opportunity to work on world-class CPU technology within a globally recognised engineering team
- Exposure to complex, cutting-edge processor development projects
- Visa sponsorship available for engineers already based in the UK
