Job description

Job Title: Global Freight Manager

Salary: £29,700 - £38,550

Location: Cambridge, UK/Hybrid

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full Time - 35 hours per week

Join us at the heart of our global logistics operation, driving the seamless, cost-effective movement of products from origin to destination worldwide.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About The Role

As a Global Freight Manager, you will be responsible for delivering the efficient, compliant and cost‑effective movement of products from origin to destination across global supply chains.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, International Logistics, you will play a central part in keeping freight operations running smoothly while supporting wider business goals. You will work closely with strategic freight forwarders, carriers and internal teams worldwide to optimise service, cost and performance across road, sea and air freight. From managing shipment flows and documentation to maintaining service level agreements and KPIs, you will ensure issues are identified early and resolved quickly.

Alongside day‑to‑day operations, you will drive continuous improvement — identifying opportunities to improve material flows, reduce costs and strengthen supplier relationships. You will also have ownership of logistics reporting, including KPIs, SLAs and environmental and sustainability data.

You will work in a global environment, blending operational delivery with data‑driven improvement and collaborative stakeholder engagement.

This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition.

About You

You will have experience working in national or international logistics or transport, with exposure to end‑to‑end supply chain activity. You are comfortable using Transport Management Systems and/or SAP and have a practical understanding of how logistics operations support wider business objectives.

You bring strong attention to detail and commercial awareness, and you are confident working collaboratively as part of a team. You are able to present information clearly to internal stakeholders and external suppliers and use data to monitor performance, interpret KPIs and SLAs, and drive continuous improvement. You enjoy working in a fast‑paced, global environment and are motivated to improve ways of working.

You will also demonstrate a collaborative leadership style, with the ability to support and mentor others, encourage innovation, and lead performance and change across teams and business partners. You build trust through empathy, clear communication and a shared focus on results.

If you meet the above minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply. Your application will be even stronger if you can also demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
  • Understanding of commodity codes
  • Warehouse and distribution experience/knowledge
  • Knowledge of freight rates
