Job description

Overview A full‑time appointment is expected to involve an approximately 60:40 education: clinical split. A regular clinical commitment is expected, with care of elderly patients and supervising medical students on placement in the clinical environment. This activity will ordinarily involve two days per week during normal hours. Key Responsibilities These include clinical duties and educational activities as follows:
  • Contribute to placement and clinical supervision of students.
  • Deliver classroom and simulation‑based teaching related to chronic disease specialties, geriatric medicine, and other aspects of undergraduate curricula.
  • Mentor students and junior colleagues involved with medical education.
  • Act as Educational Supervisor for Year 3 or 4 medical students (following appropriate training).
  • Develop teaching resources for the clinical school and work closely with the undergraduate team to evolve novel teaching methods and strategies to benefit the students.
  • Contribute to the coordination and delivery of the widening access to medicine programme, guiding and supporting Academic Foundation year doctors.
  • Register for and pursue a postgraduate qualification in medical education, which will be funded by the Undergraduate Department.
  • Help identify teaching and training opportunities within acute and community hospitals and channel these resources for the benefit of the students.
  • Undertake education development and quality improvement project activity with support from the local and wider Medical Education team.
