Position: Consultant in Urology (Functional)
Job Summary We are looking for an enthusiastic dynamic individual to join our team of thirteen consultants as our second Functional Consultant. The successful applicant will help support and expand the current comprehensive services provided, deliver high-quality urological care to the people of Plymouth and surrounding areas from our tertiary referral centre of excellence, and help maintain our ability to achieve national targets in this large university teaching hospital in the Southwest of England.About

Specification Essential
  • Successfully completed an ATLS and APLS provider course;
    Level 3 child protection training; completed FRCS Urol and be on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register or eligible for admission within six months of interview.
  • Demonstrate evidence of good general training and sub‑specialty training, ability to perform advanced procedures and lead a team.
  • Presentations or publications in peer‑reviewed journals; able to conduct clinical audit.
  • Ability to teach clinical and practical skills.
  • Well‑presented CV; ability to work in a team and delegate appropriately.
  • Willingness to participate in management process.

Desirable
  • Higher degree, current ATLS provider status, postgraduate prizes and awards, other medical qualifications and experience outside specialty.
  • Understanding of NHS, good time management, wide‑based knowledge, attendance at relevant courses/meetings, post‑CCT fellowship or equivalent, advanced surgical and medical courses, comprehensive knowledge of specialty.
  • Current research, research in a specialty interest, extensive publications, presentations at national or international meetings, audit projects, statistical knowledge.
  • Evidence of teaching experience, supervision of projects, ATLS instructor.
  • Evidence of good communication skills, IT skills, leadership skills and interest in management.

Job Responsibilities The consultant will be involved in all aspects of urological care, supporting the existing urologists in outpatient clinics, participating in a 1:9 on‑call rota, and contributing to the Specialty Registrar training programme. The role includes teaching and training foundation doctors, specialist nurses, medical undergraduates and general practitioners; supervising urological trainees; participating in audit and clinical governance activities, and attending regular MDT meetings.
