Stellar Recruitment is partnering with a global mining company to recruit an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer for a long-life underground operation in North West Queensland.
This opportunity is available on either a residential basis or FIFO from Brisbane, with visa sponsorship available for the right international candidate.
About the OperationOur client operates one of Australia's largest underground base metals mines, recognised for its technically complex mining environment, large-scale stoping operations and ongoing investment in growth. With a long mine life and a strong focus on innovation, this is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected technical team working on challenging underground geotechnical projects.
The OpportunityReporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the geotechnical department, ensuring safe and efficient underground mining while mentoring a team of engineers and technical professionals.Working closely with Technical Services and Operations, you will play a key role in underground mine design, ground support strategies, geotechnical risk management and long-term mine planning.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of Geotechnical Engineers, Graduates and Technicians.
  • Provide technical oversight of underground mine design, stope sequencing and ground support systems.
  • Manage geotechnical monitoring programs, instrumentation and risk management.
  • Review and approve complex ground support designs and geotechnical assessments.
  • Oversee QA/QC of ground support systems and paste backfill.
  • Contribute to medium and long-term mine planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with geotechnical management plans and relevant Queensland mining legislation.


About You
  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years' underground hard rock mining experience, or 2 years' underground hard rock experience with 6+ years' combined mining experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring geotechnical teams.
  • Strong capability using Deswik, Leapfrog and Rocscience.
  • Extensive knowledge of underground mine design, rock mechanics, ground support and geotechnical risk management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A collaborative approach with a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
