Are you a motivated Theatre Practitioner (Registered Nurse or ODP) looking to develop your skills within a busy perioperative environment?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner to join Main Theatres at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
Main Theatres is a busy 24/7 nine-theatre department delivering specialist services across Trauma, ENT & Head & Neck, Vascular, Digestive Diseases, Gynaecology, CEPOD and Obstetrics, and forms part of the Major Trauma Centre for the region.
You will support the delivery of safe, high-quality perioperative care, working closely with surgical and anaesthetic teams across a wide range of elective and emergency procedures. Opportunities are available across both scrub and anaesthetic roles, with experience in both areas considered desirable.
The role also involves supporting learners and new staff, including student nurses and student ODPs, helping to maintain a positive learning culture within the department.
Newly qualified Nurses and ODPs will be supported through a structured 12-month preceptorship programme, alongside wider CPD opportunities to support ongoing professional development.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop perioperative skills within a supportive multidisciplinary team and gain experience within a Major Trauma Centre environment.
You will work as part of the multidisciplinary theatre team, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality perioperative care across the department while promoting effective teamwork and communication.
You will support the supervision and development of staff and learners within the perioperative environment, contributing to a positive learning culture within the department.
You will provide clinical and technical support within the perioperative setting, maintaining high standards of professional practice and evidence-based patient care.
You will support patients throughout the perioperative pathway, ensuring safe, compassionate and high-quality care while maintaining patient dignity, confidentiality and safety at all times.
You will contribute to the delivery of safe and effective perioperative services in line with Trust policies, professional standards and national guidance.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. For example, applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same role to qualify for sponsorship.

The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary perioperative team, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care within the theatre environment. They will work within their scope of competence and professional registration, maintaining high standards of clinical practice at all times.
The post holder will support the day-to-day running of the clinical area, responding appropriately to changing clinical priorities and working collaboratively with surgical, anaesthetic and theatre teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
They will be expected to develop and maintain clinical competence within their specialist area, completing a structured orientation and competency programme and participating in ongoing professional development activities.
The role includes supporting the supervision and development of learners and new staff within the department, contributing to a positive learning environment and maintaining effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will maintain accurate clinical records and use electronic systems appropriately in line with Trust policy and professional standards. They will demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with patients, relatives and colleagues, ensuring patient dignity, confidentiality and safety are maintained at all times.
The post holder will support the safe management of medicines, equipment and consumables within the perioperative environment, adhering to Trust policies, national legislation and local procedures.
They will contribute to maintaining a safe working environment through compliance with infection prevention, health and safety and clinical governance processes, including incident reporting and escalation of concerns where appropriate.
The post holder will participate in mandatory training, departmental meetings and ongoing quality improvement activities, contributing to the continued development of perioperative services within the department.
