We’re looking for a Principal Substation Engineer (Primary Design) to lead the delivery of major transmission and energy infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe.You’ll play a key role in shaping high-profile projects including AIS & GIS substations, HVDC interconnectors, and energy transition programmes.
What you’ll be doing:
What we’re looking for:✔ 10+ years’ experience in HV substation design (132kV–400kV)✔ Strong knowledge of UK transmission & distribution standards (National Grid/DNO)✔ Proven experience leading technical delivery on complex projects✔ Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)✔ Chartered or working towards (IET preferred)✔ Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

What you’ll be doing:
- Leading FEED and detailed design for National Grid and DNO projects
- Reviewing HV plant designs including layouts, earthing, interlocking, and busbar calculations
- Ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery of design packages and technical bids
- Coordinating with engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Supporting FAT, SAT, and design/hazard reviews
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers
- Supporting tenders and contributing to technical proposals
- Building strong client relationships and supporting business growth
