Job description

This job is only available to University of Leeds staff. It may be released externally should we not appoint internally.

This role is open to existing employees within the Wellbeing team at the University of Leeds only

Interviews are expected to be held on the 11th August 2026

This role will be based on the university campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements

The Student Wellbeing Service provides a wide range of excellent and innovative support to help students manage psychological, emotional and mental health concerns whilst at University. The Wellbeing Service is part of a large multi-disciplinary team and supports students through a stratified support offer. This includes triage appointments, contracts of therapeutic support, a comprehensive psychoeducational groups and workshop programme and onward referral to specialist services. The service is part of the Student Experience and Support Directorate and is part of a wider student experience portfolio.

The Senior Wellbeing Practitioner is an experienced clinician and senior member of the Wellbeing Team which sits within the wider Student Wellbeing Service. The role combines direct student support with responsibility for supporting the effective running, delivery, and ongoing improvement of the wellbeing support offer within the service.

The post holder will contribute to the day-to-day operational management of the service and will deputise for the Assistant Head of Student Support (Wellbeing) when required. Alongside this, they will maintain a 50% clinical caseload, offering high-quality wellbeing support to students.

The role also has a key responsibility for strengthening working relationships between the Wellbeing Practitioners and faculties, supporting better alignment between wellbeing provision and academic structures, processes, and expectations.

This is a full‑time role, working 9–5, with one working‑from‑home day per week. Please be aware that there will be some flexibility required for student facing events such as open days, offer holder-days or wellbeing events on campus.

The Student Wellbeing Service delivers time‑sensitive, student‑facing support during core office hours, and the role therefore operates within these hours. Reasonable adjustments will be considered to support individuals to carry out the full duties of the role effectively. Any adjustments will focus on workload management, equipment, communication, and other support arrangements, and will be reviewed regularly to ensure service needs continue to be met.

Clinical activity is capped at 50% FTE, the equivalent of 10 clinical hours. The remaining 50% of time will be allocated flexibly across faculty engagement, operational responsibilities, and service development, with priorities agreed in line with service need.

Please note that this post may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route but first-time applicants might need to qualify for salary concessions. For more information please visit: www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa
