About the Opportunity
  • Total nursing care and functions in accordance with the resident-directed approach to care, through the established philosophy of service.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, documenting and directing resident needs through consultation with medical professionals, care conferences and internal staff
  • Competence in numerous care areas including, but not limited to:
    • Palliative Care Management
    • Medication Administration
    • Venipuncture
    • Butterfly Insertion Set
    • Catheter/Subprapubic Catheter Insertion
    • Head to Toe Assessment
  • Providing leadership to health services staff and overseeing provision of quality health services respecting the client’s right to individualized planning of health services
  • Working with the existing management and health services teams to promote communication and compliance to policies and procedures
  • Maintains knowledge of current legislation and program requirements that govern long-term care
  • Maintain knowledge of issues and priorities within health care with a focus on continuing care
  • Follows the process in place for safekeeping of medications
  • Administers and records prescribed medications in accordance with facility policy
  • Provides consultation regarding resident issues and standards of care to interdisciplinary team
  • Assists residents with hygiene and daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, oral care, skin care, meals, positioning in bed, and transferring to and from bed to chair
  • Assists with resident’s special needs, e.g. eye care, colostomy, and catheter
  • Applies dressings and treatments according to physician’s orders and facility policy
  • Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of care plans
  • Administers and records prescribed medication as per company policy and scope of practice
  • Maintains the standards of accurate and complete documentation and reporting
  • Required to act as a work area leader or mentor in providing training, advice to peers doing similar work or filling in for vacation of people leader.
  • Assists with supervision and evaluation of job performance and behavior of other health care staff
  • Additional duties as assigned

About You In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
  • Graduate from an approved Practical Nursing Program
  • Approved Pharmacology and Physical Assessment course (if not completed during diploma)
  • Current registration with provincial regulatory body
  • Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours and shifts inclusive of days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • A valid CPR & First Aid Certification (required)
  • A clear criminal record with vulnerable sector screening upon hire
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Any previous course in Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care to be a huge asset
  • Previous working experience with elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment an asset
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care.
