Nuclear Medicine Specialist Practitioner Clinical Technologist /Radiographer

The Role

This is a varied and highly specialist role within the Diagnostics Directorate, providing direct patient care and delivering a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures.

The Post Holder Will

• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including clinical scientists, technologists, consultant clinicians, radiographers, nurses, and administrative professionals
• Operate complex imaging and laboratory equipment such as SPECT CT, PET CT, and DEXA systems
• Ensure the highest standards of patient care, radiation safety, and clinical governance
• Perform and support a broad range of nuclear medicine investigations
• Contribute to protocol development, quality assurance, and audit activity
• Participate in training, research, and service development

The role requires sound technical judgement, strong communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously in a busy clinical environment.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

• Base location: Glasgow Royal Infirmary
• Work locations: Peripatetic across all Nuclear Medicine sectors within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, including:

  • Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
  • Royal Hospital for Children
• Work pattern:
• • Participation in out-of-hours working is required as service needs dictate

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging, non-imaging investigations, theragnostic procedures and radionuclide therapies within the Nuclear Medicine service. The role requires the independent performance of a wide range of nuclear medicine investigations, ensuring a high standard of technical accuracy and patient care at all times.

Operating and maintaining advanced imaging technologies including SPECT CT, PET CT and DEXA systems, contributing to the safe and effective delivery of the service. A key aspect of the role will be maintaining consistently high standards of patient care and safety, with particular emphasis on radiation protection and adherence to clinical governance requirements.

In addition, you will contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, and will actively participate in quality assurance programmes and audit activities to support continuous service improvement.

The role also involves supporting ongoing service development and innovation, ensuring that the Nuclear Medicine service continues to evolve in line with best practice. The post holder will be expected to participate in the training and development of staff and students, sharing knowledge and supporting learning within the team.

Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team across multiple sites within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is essential, requiring effective communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to contribute positively to team working across the wider service.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Specialist knowledge in nuclear medicine techniques and procedures
• Competence in operating complex diagnostic imaging equipment (SPECT CT, PET CT, DEXA)
• Understanding of:

• Ability to work independently with strong technical and clinical judgement
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
