Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the RoleOur client is a growing manufacturing and distribution business based in Canvey Island, Essex (SS8 0PU), seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance & Accounts Assistant to join our onsite team.This is a varied, hands-on role suited to an AAT-qualified individual who enjoys working across both finance and operational processes. The role is approximately 60% finance and bookkeeping and 40% accounts receivable and customer order processing, supporting the business end-to-end from order to cash.German language skills are desirable but not essential, due to interaction with European customers and suppliers. Key Responsibilities Finance & Bookkeeping (approx. 60%)
- Maintain accurate day-to-day bookkeeping records
- Process purchase invoices and perform supplier reconciliations
- Post journals, accruals, and prepayments as required
- Carry out bank and control account reconciliations
- Support VAT returns and period-end processes
- Assist with audit preparation and finance reporting
- Ensure financial records are maintained accurately and in line with company procedures
Accounts Receivable & Order-to-Cash (approx. 40%)
- Raise and issue customer invoices linked to sales orders
- Manage accounts receivable, including allocation of payments
- Monitor customer accounts and carry out credit control activities
- Liaise with customers professionally regarding billing queries and overdue balances
- Support processing of customer orders within the ERP / order management system
- Coordinate with sales, logistics, and operations teams to ensure accurate order and invoice processing
Skills & Experience Essential
- AAT qualified (Level 3 or above) or equivalent practical experience
- Proven experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, or Bookkeeping role
- Strong understanding of sales ledger and accounts receivable
- Good working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Confident communicator with both internal teams and external customers
- Ability to manage a varied workload in a small, hands-on environment
Desirable
- Experience within manufacturing, distribution, or supply chain environments
- German language skills (written and/or spoken)
- Exposure to ERP or order processing systems
- Experience supporting VAT or month-end close activities
