Electrical Engineer Transpower New Zealand Help Power New Zealand’s National GridTranspower New Zealand is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the planning, design, operation, and improvement of New Zealand’s high-voltage transmission network. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electricity while supporting the integration of renewable energy into the National Grid. What You'll Do

• Power System Engineering
• Design, analyse, and optimise transmission network systems.
• Assess grid performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Support the integration of renewable energy projects into the network.
• Conduct power system studies and technical modelling.

Asset Management & Infrastructure

• Develop maintenance and upgrade plans for transmission assets.
• Evaluate asset condition, performance, and lifecycle requirements.
• Support substation and transmission line projects.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards and best practices.

Protection & Safety

• Design and review electrical protection systems.
• Investigate faults, outages, and network incidents.
• Implement risk mitigation and network security measures.
• Promote safe work practices and compliance with industry regulations.

Technical Analysis & Collaboration

• Prepare engineering reports, studies, and recommendations.
• Conduct technical investigations and feasibility assessments.
• Analyse system performance data and identify improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, generators, and distribution companies.
• Provide technical expertise for major infrastructure projects.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Knowledge of power systems and high-voltage electrical networks.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical report writing skills.
• Understanding of electrical safety standards and engineering principles.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in transmission, generation, or electricity distribution networks.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards accreditation.
• Experience with power system modelling and analysis software.
• Project engineering or infrastructure delivery experience.
