Apply now.(Relocation package available for qualified nurses)Grade: Psychiatric Registered Nurse 3 (ANUM) Location: Thomas Embling Hospital  Full time opportunity  $100,932 - $112,091 + super + salary packaging  (Salary subject to adjustment upon finalisation of our new agreement). About the role: The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (RPN3) is a leadership position that has a close working relationship with the Unit Manager to assist in achieving Unit and organisational goals. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (RPN3) leads and coordinates the nursing team, to provide care and facilitate recovery through the use of evidence-based treatment approaches and participation in the delivery of therapeutic programs. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (RPN3) will use sound judgement to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and maintain a high standard of patient care, recognising the needs of the individual within the boundaries set by the profession and Forensicare. Inpatient Services at Thomas Embling Hospital (T.E.H.) is provided within a high-security forensic hospital. Primarily designed to facilitate the provision of assessments, acute or continuing care and treatment for patients from the criminal justice system, the T.E.H. is a unique one of its kind service provided nowhere else in Victoria.  T.E.H comprises various units that accommodate patients requiring acute and sub-acute levels of care; and providing similar services for rehabilitation & independent living.

Key responsibilities:  
  • Manage resources during the shift. 

  • Improve the unit culture by challenging staff and providing support to the Unit Manager with practice development. 

  • Initiate and coordinate unit projects and participate in committees that contribute to service development. 

  • Promotes and supports nursing and the nursing contribution to care with other disciplines, departments and agencies. 

  • Coordinate emergency situations. 

  • Demonstrates sound communication skills in recording and reporting information to the interdisciplinary team. 

  • Participates in the establishment and maintenance of effective links between unit staff and significant others, including carers. 

About the company: Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.  Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community. These services are delivered through three streams, inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison-based services at several locations. Criteria:  
  • Holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent and possess current registration with AHPRA.  

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and to manage resources on a shift. 

  • Uses sound judgement and initiative to make independent, clear and patient-centred therapeutic recommendations. 

  • Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive nursing assessments of mentally ill patients, and to plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions. 

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation. 

  • Knowledge of contemporary and ethical mental health nursing practice

  • Influenza and Immunisation Evidence 

  • This position is subject to a Police Check
